Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

There are generally two ways God moves you to show kindness to fellow believers. One is when you’re aware of their need, are thinking about it, and realize that you’re in a position to help. So you talk it over with your wife or husband and arrange to do it. It’s really a logical conclusion, done out of love for others. Often you have time to think it over and get counsel about it.

The second way is when you first become aware of their need and right on the spot the Holy Spirit speaks, telling you exactly what to do to help.

However God works to get you to loosen your purse strings, and helping someone often involves finances. Yes, God may call upon you to give to someone less fortunate than yourself, even if you’re manual laborer earning minimum wage. Paul said in Ephesians 4:28, “Let him…labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”

James asked, “Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, ‘Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’-but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?” (James 2:15-16). The answer is obvious.
