I think this is the correct section for this, if not excuse me :) As all of us do, I sin so incredibly much, and each time I get this feeling of such self uselessness, I feel like a pile of rubbish, so low... however I cannot break this chain of sins that I keep doing over and over, knowing theyre wrong. I was wondering if somebody could give me a bit of help or advice on how to move from sin, and remove it from my life? The obvious answer is with Gods help, and Ive prayed that he help me many times, but I still sin.... any tips?

Thanks.

In this world it is very clear how difficult it is to break the bondages of sin whichever kind it may be. However, remember the PROMISE, the AUTHORITY in Jesus Christ we have and declare it on your life! Not once, not twice, not three times - over and over!

Matthew 10:1
[ The Twelve Apostles ] And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.

See, we have authority to cast out demons. That is top notch, so therefore the lesser than being possessed would be bondage of sin. I may be wrong in wording this, but I think you understand my point. I think it is worst to be demon possessed as it shows how sinful one had to be [again, correct me if I am wrong]. However, in Jesus Christ - we are free and granted authority.

Please note that it is important to do the following daily, as much as possible:

1. Pray, pray pray!
2. Read the Word, read it again! Memorize Scripture and quote it when you feel tempted
3. Do not partake with evil-doers [those are who stumbling blocks, unbelievers]. Surely not all unbelievers have to be stumbling blocks, but usually they can be.
4. Surround yourself with godly people [church, thats a given].
5. Figure out where and when you usually get tempted, and try to stay away from that area (i.e., internet? a certain friends house?)

God bless

The problem dear friend will arise when you land up in some grevious problem because of sinning after knowing well that sin can result in punishment.

When such a thing happens, people either suffer and repent or suffer and get angry with God.

Instead of that it is better to restrain ourselves from sinning by clinging to God in prayer, meditating on the Word and asking strong believers to pray for you continuously. If you have not tried fasting, please do try that; you will see great changes when you fast and pray.

Hi there,

It's and identity issue really, if you see your self as a sinner that's exactly what you will do – sin. If you are a born again Christian you are now in Christ and you share his divine nature, so that means your born again spirit is now righteous and holy. There is now no sin in this area of your life at all, and your spirit is full of divine glory and light.
Have you noticed that when the apostle Paul wrote his letters he often said wonderful things about the Christians he wrote to. You could start in Ephesians and work you way through these letters and notice the great things he said about those saints, if you are in Christ thoses things are also true about you too. But you need to have those things fixed firmly in your heart and mind if they are going to become real in your experience.
Romans 10:8 says; But what does it say? The word is near you; it's in your mouth and in your heart, that is the word of faith which we are proclaming... Every time you read the Bible or hear the word preached and something specific in it speaks personally to you, that is a fulfillment of the verse I've just quoted. It produces faith in your heart and when you speak it out of your mouth it becomes real in your experience, it produces salvation in your life, not just in the narrow sense that you are saved to go to heaven when you die, but in the broader sense that you are saved from a sinful life style here on earth. Read the rest of Romans Chapter 10 down to verse 10, see also chapter 12 verse 2.

Recommended reading, ' Victory over the Darkness.' By Neil T Anderson. Covers victory over sin and our new identity in Christ at some depth.

Blessings,
Tonyb

PS Don't give up when you fail, remember 1 John 1:9 keep going and victory will come, you have God's Word on it.

some interpretation

I have some scripture I would like interpreted,I feel like this is me
2 Pet. 2:20-22, [20] "For if after they have escaped the defilement’s of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. [21] For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. [22] It has happened to them according to the true proverb, 'a dog returns to its own vomit,' and, 'a sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.

For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, [5] and have tasted the good scripture and the powers of the age to come, [6] and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame.

"For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." Hebrews 10:26.
I have been in a downward spiral for about 2 months now.I have been having anxiety attacks with thoughts that I am going to hell for sure, chain smoking for the stress, making my wife think I dont love her because Im so lost in thought worrying about my salvation I cant remember anything she says.

Lying or telling half truths to prevent arguments because my family and wife dont get along, kinda having a state of confusion about me,like a fog in my mind not letting me see straight, attacks of filthy and unholy thoughts popping in my head.

Feeling condemned in everything I do,feeling hopeless 24/7,constant doubt,I go from anxiety to kind of a dont care feeling.I feel like Ive thrown eternal life out the window in a matter of 3 months. My mind stays in such a mess I feel like I dont even know what it means to believe anymore.

The verse speaking of getting entangled again scares me because I dont even know where to begin.I know its but a thought for God to pull me through this,Im just afraid Im gonna grieve the Spirit away to a point of no return.

Someone please pray for me.

Lord Jesus, I pray for this child of yours that your Holy Spirit may guide him in the right path through your Word and I rebuke every darkness in his life in the mighty name of Jesus. Let the light of your "truth" remove every darkness that has come upon his life and set him free dear Lord.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

I will pray for you dear brother. God bless you.

Hi there,

I just like to say very quickly, if you had lost it to the point of those people in the verses you have just quoted, you would have no anxiety about the sins that are currently troubling you. If fact you wouldn't have any interest in anything godly at all. God, Jesus, Eternal Life, heaven, hell would mean nothing to you at all.
There is a pastor on talk Jesus why not write him a personal message, and have a word with the pastor of your own church. I think you will find your anxiety is unfounded. Doubts come from the devil and it sounds as if he is having a field day with you. Find some positive scriptures about yourself, how did you become a Christian what scriptures spoke to you then. I'm sure God will have spoken something positive and loving to you some where along the way. Remember the scripture, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. If Jesus has said he loves you, he still loves you yesterday, today, and forever and he always will love you because he never changes. It's the same with God the father in James' letter it says He doesn't even change slightly, ever. And God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one and they change not, and they will love you for ever, and ever Amen!

Blessings

When we sin it is a result of not denying ourselves and taking upour crosses. We are led away by our own lusts and desires. You cannot be led of the HolySpirit and sin at the same time. It's a matter of being led by self or the HolySpirit.

Galations 5:16-26
16*This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17*For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18*But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19*Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20*idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21*envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22*But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23*meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24*And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25*If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26*Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

So just grow spiritually, decrease self and allow Christ to be increased in you by the power of the HolySpirit.

thanks!

Ive heard some fantastic points in all this, and Im going to put them all to good use! Thanks so much guys I love you all, where would I be without you eh? :D Tonyb said something about Neil T Anderson, Ive got his Freedom in Christ DVDs just downstairs Ill start watching them, infact Ill go watch one now! Thanks again - God bless you all forever and ever.

Thanks for the replies, sometimes I work myself up too much, not that sin isnt a SERIOUS matter to be constantly suppressed, but getting to the point of having anxiety attacks is terrible,I think the spirit of fear is one of satans favorite weapons. Its a blessing to have people to talk to and pray for you.

Stop letting the enemy talk to you like he has been.God doesn't want you thinking of yourself that way. Take back control of your thoughts. "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons o0f the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and WE TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT TO MAKE IT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST." (2 Cor 10:5c).

I also suggest that you get a study Bible and take your time studying Romans, because in Romans, Paul lays out quite clearly how to deal with our sinful natures and he shows us the awesomeness of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

I think Joshua Harris has some very helpful advice in his book "Not even a hint". Although it is primarily about lust and sexual sin, it is equally applicable to any other persistent sin.

He also reproduces the "Paths to Repentance" by John Loftness, which is very helpful. It sets out six steps, which are as follows:

First you must accept that you are not going to succeed by yourself. You will need the power to change which comes from the Holy Spirit.

Step One - Pray: establish you dendence on God by praying for the help of the Holy Spirit in the process.

Step Two - Identify the sin: Define its practice in Biblical terms. Define your heart's motive in Biblical terms. Define the false belief that created the motive and its acts.

Step Three - Embrace the Gospel: Mediate how your sin offends God. Cultiavte sorrow. Mediate on the fact that God sent Jesus to die in your place to overcome the offense your sin created. Pray. Admit your sin to God and ask Him to forgive you and to account your sin to Jesus' death on your behalf.

Step Four - Take steps to stop: Collect on paper what the Bible says about your sin, its consequences, your forgiveness in Christ and the Spirit's power to work in you to change. Memorise the most helpful passages. Purpose to change your thinking and behaviour. Purpose to change behaviour that increases temptation, like the places you go to, the people with whom you interact, the things you listen to, words you say, and confess your sin to those you've offended and seek their forgiveness. Make restitution, if necessary.

Step Five - Replace your sin with righteousness: Put on Christ. If you are a Christian, you are joined to Jesus. His Spirit dwells in you. You can think and act as He does! Identify thoughts you can think or actions you can take to replace the false belief about your sin with the truth, the sinful motive with a true motive for something else which pleases God, and sinful behaviour with righteous behaviour.

Step Six - Seek fellowship as a means of grace: If you haven't already, inform godly friends or your pastor of your sin and the process you are engaging in to change. Ask for their evaluation of the conclusions you've drawn, and adjust where needed. Make yourself accountable to walk the specific path you've outlined.

You should take the first five steps daily and the sixth reguarly. On the sixth step, I can't recommend more stronglythat you have an accountability partner or partners, who is or are mature Bible believing Christians. They can be a fantastic help.
