Elizabeth got her first job in 1936. More than eighty years later she was still on the job. The telegraph was in use when she gained employment, Franklin Roosevelt was president, and computers may have been a dream, but not one she entertained. A typewriter was her companion, and her boss regularly scoured the newspaper ads to find replacement parts, but there was a willingness to do that for the living history book of the school.
Today is Administrative Professionals Day, a time to salute and appreciate those who help you. That probably goes beyond the intent of the day, but there’s a more universal reminder in this celebration. You, too, have people who help you do your job.
God designed you to work. You gain satisfaction from working, earning a living, and using some of what you earn to help others. God also designed you to need help. Every moment of your work day is an opportunity to demonstrate teamwork.
When you allow God to influence your work life, you might actually have an opportunity to share why your work ethic is unique. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds you, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
