I feel really silly positing my prayer request after I’ve read most of yours but I know God hears every single prayer regardless of its contents.

I called off my wedding back in September of this year. He was verbally and emotionally abusive for so long and he has repeatedly threatened me which made me worry about my safety.

I know God said to love one another as I have loved you but it got to a point where if my safety is a concern then what is the point of getting married?

I have gone through therapy to help me cope with the effects of being in an abusive relationship. I have been through two failed relationships and I’m just exhausted of finding the right man. And it’s even worse when one comes from an abusive relationship. You can be the smartest person on the planet but once you are in an abusive relationship, you can’t tell right from wrong.

At this point in my life, I just want to surrender everything to the Lord. My prayer is that I hope to find the faith to surrender my entire life to the Lord. And that I will heal and be whole again.

Well shibby gurl...Not only does God love you and hear you, but He wants to help you. Lay off them guys for awhile (short of the Lord) and pray (as I will) for wisdom in relationships and to not be so trusting until a guy give you reason to trust them. Any guy that desires you might act nice for awhile, but he is only putting his best foot forward, which isnt bad, but it means that you dont really know him. Dont give in to any guy for being a girlfriend much less marriage until you are properly courted, shown real respect, kindness and compassion. Give any relationship time to test the spirit of the man to know his worth beyond what he says to how he acts.. "over longer periods". Most guys can act nice for awhile even if they have major problems, but time gives many flaws away, so dont rush into any long term relationship, let time and discernment show you the truth of a man. And you of course DO deserve a GOOD man, just make sure thats what you look for, because if you dont, you will no doubt find a terribly flawed one. There is plenty around of the flawed ones, but there are some diamonds in the rough.

I met him via online dating website. He was really nice for the first year we were together but looking back, I guess it was the honeymoon period effect. He started showing signs of abuse after that but by then, I was too invested in the relationship to think clearly.

He considered himself agnostic and left his church in his early twenties. I should have known by then that we were just unequally yoked. I mean I pray every morning as soon as I wake up. I had hope my faith would rub off on him. I always thought good triumphs over evil.

I’m often embarrassed to face people and explain that the wedding was cancelled but I’m glad I got out of that relationship.

There are random moments when I find myself crying because I can’t believe what I went through and that it happened to me. One hears stories like this all the time but I didn’t know I was one of them.

Sorry for your pain. Tears are good for you, they dont make you weak like some people like to say.

Praying for you. I empathize. Find your worth in Jesus Christ. Let him heal your pain. Trust in his love and grace. Surrender your all to him. Then you will know inward peace. He has a purpose for your life. Let him show you the way. Just cry it all out to him and let his love be enough for you.

let his love be enough for you.
I am working on this. I feel like there must be some degree of weakness in me that allows such characters into my life. From now on, God is my source of strength and love. It may take a while and it bears repeating but this is now my ultimate goal.

This is what faith is all about anyway right? Surrending all of our human desires to His will.

Shibby, We are all born with sin natures. And, we have all sinned. But, the good news is that Jesus died on that cross, not just to save us for eternity, and not just to forgive us our sins, but to deliver us out of slavery (bondage, addiction) to sin and to give us new lives in him, free from the control of sin, and free to walk in his holiness and righteousness, empowered by the Spirit of God living within us. We can't do it ourselves. We have to yield control of our lives over to Jesus Christ and allow him to work his will and his way in our hearts. So, it isn't just about surrendering our human desires to his will, but it is about living and walking in the power of the Spirit in victory, as overcomers. It is about Jesus' life being lived out through us.

I do truly empathize, though, with how you are feeling about yourself. I've been there, too. Many of us have, but God has rescued us, and he has given us a new song to sing, a new outlook on life, and a new hope and healing. We just have to grab a hold of it and make it our own. We have to shut the door on our former lives and walk with him, going forward, one day and one step at a time, resisting Satan, fleeing temptation, and drawing near to God in full assurance of faith.

Let him be your all sufficiency.

What the Lord Says / An Original Work
February 24, 2014 / Based off Isaiah 43:1-44:5

This is what the Lord says to you:
Fear not, for I have chosen you.
I have summoned you by your name.
You are mine. I died, you to save.

When you go through your trials, so deep,
I will be with you; you will not sink.
You are so precious always to me.
Trust in your Lord, Savior and King.

This is what the Lord says to you:
He who gave salvation to you;
Who delivered you from your sin;
Takes your burdens now upon Him:

Forget the former things of your life.
Give of your heart not now up to strife.
See all the new things I have for you.
Walk in vict’ry. Trust in what’s true.

This is what the Lord says to you:
He who made you; who will help you:
Do not fear what humans may do.
Walk in freedom. Follow what’s true.

Drink of my Spirit given for you.
Trust in my mercy, for I love you.
I have a plan for all of your life.
Follow my ways. Do what is right.

[for me anyway] because faith cometh only by hearing the Word of God, so therefore if we lack faith, we then must more abundantly hear His Word, that is, we must more abundantly submit to and rely upon God's Word. As for surrendering, Christ tells us plainly that if any will follow Him, then we must deny our own will. As for suffering, we are called unto suffering for Christ's sake, and by suffering persecution we know know that we are living godly in Christ Jesus. But if we seek for and want comfort and convenience in this world, then we are not following Him, but the world: this is not to say that we look for suffering, Nay rather again because His Word tells us that all that will live godly in Him shall suffer persecution; but it does not say that if we will godly in Him, we shall have comfort and convenience of life.
