“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8 NASB1995)
So, if we, as Christians, should have this same attitude as that of Jesus Christ, what should this look like in our everyday lives? How should we go about exemplifying what he exemplified? For one, this cannot be done in our own flesh, of our own will and purpose, by our own thinking and standards. We can only do this by biblical faith in Jesus Christ, via first dying with him to sin and then being raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to God and to his righteousness.
Then our lives must be surrendered to God to doing his will, submitted to his Lordship over our lives, and committed to obeying him at all costs. We must accept the reality that our lives are no longer our own to be lived however we want to live them, for we were bought back for God, redeemed by the blood of Christ, that we might repent of (turn away from) our sins and now walk with our Lord in obedience to his commands in holy living. For if sin is still our practice, and not obedience, we will not inherit eternal life with God.
Now, we still live in flesh bodies, and we are still susceptible to sin, so daily, by the Spirit, we must be putting sin to death in our lives and walking in obedience to our Lord in doing whatever he has for us to do and to say and to be, for his glory, honor, and praise (Luke 9:23-26; Romans 8:1-14). And we are clay in the hands of the Potter (God), being molded into the likeness of Christ Jesus, as long as we submit to the Lord and we cooperate with his work of grace in our lives. For our salvation is a lifelong process of change.
And then we are to be his witnesses in sharing the true message of the gospel of our salvation with the people of the world. But we need to make certain that what we are sharing is what Jesus taught, and what his New Testament apostles taught, in their correct biblical context, and not out of context. And then we also need to be refuting the lies of Satan which stand in opposition to the truth of the gospel, for many people are believing the lies and not the truth, and they’re headed to hell on a promise of heaven.
For, the most popular gospel being taught today is that all we have to do is “believe” (not biblically defined) in Jesus, and because of his death and his bodily resurrection, we now have forgiveness of all sins, freedom, new life, a direct path to God, and the hope of eternal life with God when we die. But belief in Jesus is divine persuasion as to God’s righteousness and holiness, of our sinfulness, and of God’s requirement that we die with Christ to sin and that we now walk in obedience to his commands, in the power of God.
So, if we are going to have the same attitude as what Jesus had in denying self, and in putting his life on the line so that we could die with him to sin and walk with him in obedience to his commands, then we must deny self, die to sin, obey God, and now be sharing with the people the truth of the gospel which teaches that faith, which saves, puts sin to death in one’s own life daily, by the Spirit, and which requires that we obey our Lord and his commands, in practice, and that sin is no longer to be what we practice.
For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

As the Deer
By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
