May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6 ESV
Think back to the last sporting event you attended where the crowd sang a song. Maybe it was the national anthem or a song meant to pump up the team. There’s a good chance that the song’s power was in its volume rather than its harmony, because there are always people in the crowd who are completely tone deaf.
Now think of a professional orchestra, where the musicians are trained and have been practicing the same song for a while. There is beauty in the orchestra where there wasn’t in the sports crowd.
Our lives are like music being played for God. He desires us to live in harmony with the musicians around us, to be like the professional orchestra more than the tone-deaf crowd. But living in harmony takes practice. It means that we aren’t playing alone. It means that we need to follow the sheet music and the Conductor.
Take a listen to your life’s music. Is it in harmony with the musicians around you?
Prayer: Lord, I want my life’s music to glorify You. May I live in harmony with the people around me. Help me stop trying to be a solo act when I’m called to be in an orchestra.
