My wife left and divorced me unscripturally (saying I never loved you) and my repeated attempts at reconciliation have been futile (she says divorce is final and no reconciliation is going to happen).
So with that said, now that I am baptised and fully follow Christ to the best of my abilities, would he lead me into another marriage eventually or is it my own deceitful heart?
When I was married we both were sunday christians, we professed with our lips that we loved Christ but we didn't follow his teachings ever. When my wife divorced me I started to live for Christ and try to imitate him to the best as my ability (and get baptised). I now see peoples beauty for their spirits and not outter beauty, but I'm not really sure if that changes anything or not.
Scripture is pretty clear about this stuff but I do not have the gift of celibacy, and I do have self control as far as fornication, but not sinning against my own body. I just want a wife that has a good spirit that serves Christ and can read scripture and will pray with me. But, how do we know if God is leading us to someone or if its just our hearts?
I spoke with a pastor who told me this about the Holy Spirit in an email
"The context is Jesus' conversation with His apostles, in which He informs them of the role the Holy Spirit would have in their lives as His apostles. The Holy Spirit would guide them into all the truth (Jn 16:12-13), which He did, and they in turn wrote their gospels and epistles so that we might know what the Spirit revealed (e.g., Ep 3:3-5). When we read the writings of the apostles of Christ, then we are reading the words of the Spirit.
As for the revealing work of the Spirit, it was completed in the first century A.D., as indicated by Jude in his epistle (Jude 1:3), when he speaks of "the faith once delivered to the saints" (literally, delivered one time for all time). Thus we do not look for the Spirit to give modern revelation today. To know the will of God as revealed by the Spirit, we turn to the Word of God. It is complete and sufficient to instruct and guide us in doing the will of God (cf. 2Ti 3:16-17; 2Pe 1:3).
The Holy Spirit still has a role in the lives of Christians. Not in revealing truth, but empowering us to live according to that truth (cf. Ep 3:16,21), so that we may bear the fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Ga 5:22-23). He also intercedes for us in our prayers (Ro 8:26), so that we know God fully understands our deepest needs.
It is because many people incorrectly believe the Holy Spirit is speaking to us in ways other than through the Word that we have so much religious confusion today. Rather than letting the Word of God be our guide, people follow with they think is the leading of the Spirit, when in fact it is just their human feelings or consciences speaking"
