We are all as seeds that become plants by reason of growth, and we are sustained by
the weather of this world as it daily comes upon us.
The hidden truth concerning our spiritual weather is that we may prefer sunny days
over rainy days, but the truth of it is that we need both! A seed needs both sunny
days and rainy days, and a plant needs both as well, for if we would have only sun-
shine we would dry up and perish, likewise, if we would have only rain we would
drown and perish; so we need both, though we may think that we don’t need any
rain in our life, we do, for it the trial of faith, and this we need; it is for our growth.
Wayside: Now if we plant our life on the wayside, we can take no root of anything,
and though sunny days and rainy days come, we are the same as a rock which is un-
affected by weather, but just stays in its idle state of hardness.
Stony Ground: If we lay the foundation of our life on stony ground, we have taken
root, but it is the root of responding to emotions, and we go through life turning to
the moment of how we feel at any given moment, and therefore is our foundation
endlessly changeable with no conviction in it.
Among Thorns: When we found our manner of living upon thorns, we root our self
in the worthlessness of the love of money, because we trust in gain, that whatsoever
can advantage us in this world, we are in the state of mind, that we think it is good,
whereas we are rather in the midst of sin; because when our heart is forced into a
decision to choose God or gain, we will choose gain every time.
Good Ground: If the foundation of our life is founded on good ground, our root will
first be sincerely standing unmovable on integrity, and whether it is on sunny days
or rainy days, we will have in us that temper that does not surrender to circumstances.
