These two verses here keep me in check. I don't know aboutanyone else, but I have trouble controlling my thoughts. I used to think that I was going to hell because some of them. But through much counsel from other Christians and some of them preachers, I realized this is not so. Whenever I have trouble with worry or anxiety I go to Phillipians 4:8. Satan knows our weaknesses and this one is mine. I used to carry and index card with this verse on it. Whenever I'd get an anxiety attack or realize I was thinking about something I shouldn't I'd subtly pull this card out of my pocket read it and put it back. Now I don't have to do that. I just stop and remember it.

Phillipians 4:8 "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admireable- if anything is excellent or praisworthy think aobut such things.Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Ephesians 4:29: Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for buidling others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

This verse here also helps me to keep in check with my mouth. OUr mouths can be the deadliest of weapons. Also the way we say words. Tonight was a good example of that for me. My daugter was in here discussing stuff with us. I didn't say anything unkind but I guess it was the manner I said it in. It was just matter of fact. And she said that the way I said it hurt her feelings. It was nothing major nor was it a put down. The fact that it hurt her or upset her made me reflect ok how could I have done that better.

After writing this, I realized I was going to write on a different topic completly. ONe dealing with music and movies. I think this does apply. How you say? Well the movies and things we watch and listen to DO influence us. If watched enough, movies and things we watch can influence us negativly and put thoughts in our heads we normally don't have. Samething with the words we say.

God is so good. Lord, I wish I could learn your lessons quickly so It won't have to hurt others.

In Him,
Danni

Like my mom and my youth pastor used to tell me, "Garbage in Garbage out!" Meaning what we put in will evintually come out, even if we don't want it to.

We always need to be careful about what we take in, because, not only will it affect us and our spirit man, but it will also affect those around us. Think of it this way, What affects does smoking have? Does it only affect you or you and the people around you? Everybody is affected. This is why we must always be careful on what we choose to do and this is why God warns us about becoming a stumbling block!!!

In other words, you might be able to listen to rock n roll music with no affect to you, however, your friend or child or anyone who is listening with you can fall away from God (I dont mean lose their salvation) and it be that much harder for them to get back in to the Word!!

I dont know why I said this, but when I read what you had written Danni, this is what popped into my spirit! I hope this helped somebody and please forgive my rambling! :)

God Bless you

No, your great. I was kind of rambling when I wrote my post. So I understand.

Every person on this earth goes through different experiences, and I hope that yours and my experience will help others. That's the whole point of this forum right?

God Bless,

hi danni ,am new and was glad to see your post cos thats exactly what am dealing with at the moment.i am between jobs and babysitting for my sister-in-law and watching my 9-month old son as well (am young though) ...now this keeps me sitting in front of the tube for hours and i get to watch series and soaps..as much as i hate them, they tend to grow on you....and i find myself daydreaming and making up stories in my head, of course romantic stories..am a sucker for anything romantic..and at times i get a 'runway story'..like it starts to have its own life and runs in my head till it ends...now wat s baad is that there are some thots that a christian shldnt think that i find coming up ... i need to learn to control my thots..this was actually the reason i joined this forum, so i can get distracted from tv and do something productive.

talking bout music..i love to calm my nerves and slow my runaway thots with none other than the greatest artist of all..steven curtis chapman, do you no him? He's a big blessing to me..am listening to his album speechless right now....nanda

Nanda,
I am glad that you read my post, and I"m glad it helped. I think you hit the nail on the head. I have to be careful with books that Iread. If there is anything in them that is impure I shouldn't read it.

The verse Phillipans 4:8 has helped me more than I can say. Satan wants us to go against God more than anything. Its not easy but with time it gets easier.

God Bless,
Danni
