Looking back, when I was a kid, I was unusually naive. I was raised in a house attached to a grocery store that my parents owned. Of course, back then, the city that I live in was quite a bit smaller than now, and the street that the store faced was almost empty on Sundays. I would often sit on the front porch, looking up and down the street, and the days took on a different aura. The very light itself took on a golden glow. Being naive as I said, I thought that this was totally natural, and that was why it was called "Sunday". This didn't last, but I never forgot it.

I went on a trip to the Middle East in 1986...as it turned out, only one week before our raid on Libya. I had already bought my airlines ticket, so I felt it was too late to change my mind. It was a short trip, so I only had 2 weeks after travel time, which I spent half of in Israel. As it turned out, my journey left an impression on me that I will never forget. My first day in Jerusalem, the first thing that I did was to go to the Western Wall. The moment that I stepped into the courtyard next to the wall, I felt something pop within me like a flashbulb, but there was no camera in sight. As I looked around, the day had that old golden light. I knew that this had a special significance, but I wasn't really sure what.

Years later (1994), my brother and I got into a debate regarding whether God could hate. He brought me a brand new Holman Bible dictionary, with a number of pages dogearred. Not surprisingly, the very verses that he had found proved him wrong, but he couldn't see it. When I started to hand the book back to him, a couple of days later, he told me to keep it.

I accepted it gladly, but didn't find use for it for a couple of months, when I took it from the bookcase to read, it opened to the centerfold, which was a picture of the Western Wall, and I immediately experienced that same pop and saw the same golden light coming from the page. Without thinking about it, I knew that I was in that picture some where. I took out my magnifying glass, looking about where I expected to find myself, and there I was, too far away for anyone to recognize me, except myself.

This puzzled me even more, and I thought about it for a very long time, until I realized that this was God, showing me that he had always been with me, even as a child. When ever anything is going badly, I just remember this, and things become much easier.
