And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do [it]: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, [even] my God, [will be] with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD. 1 Chronicles 28:20

While Solomon seemed to experience little external opposition while carrying out his father’s wishes to build the temple, he must have faced some sort of opposition, otherwise David wouldn’t have encouraged him to be strong and courageous in doing the work. In fact, doing God’s work always requires strength and courage.

Have you been called to start a Bible study at work or maybe among your friends. Are you sensing that God wants you to start volunteering at your local homeless shelter or maybe even to start one? Maybe He’s calling you into full-time Christian work of some sort. Whatever the case, your primary opposition is probably mostly internal.

Who are you to start a Bible study, or work in a homeless shelter, or join the mission field, or become a pastor? You are God’s chosen—His anointed for this very task. And if He’s telling you to do something, don’t be afraid or discouraged. Do the work. God is with you.
