God is Male and Female

A long time friend of mine who is strong minded has just started going back to church after sometime away. He is earnest in his attempts to make up lost time. He has developed through his pastor's teachings that God is masculine and feminine-male and female. This is not true. He asked me my thoughts on the topic. I replied that we have a Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He questioned about the Spirit. I told my friend the Holy Spirit is male and showed it by showing him from the book of John the verses that prove the Holy Spirit is male.

[Joh 14:16] "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever;
[Joh 14:17] "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

We left it at that to leave him in God’s hands. My prayer is he sees the truth from the Word of God. Can anyone bring any other verses for him to see that the Holy Spirit is male?

Is the Holy Spirit male? Male is more an earthly thing, defined by flesh. The Father is specifically called the Father, not mother and Jesus is a Man. God can comfort you like a mother though. Holy Spirit female is nonsense, but I wouldn't call Him male either, I do say Him.
In Him is neither male nor female. I am a son of God and a man is His bride. I think it's more a description for us, to get an idea. A father alone can't get kids and God can. He's not a man.

This topic is not new but is more talked about than in previous years, the RCC is probably mainly to blame for this belief, but looking at the present world where two woman living together call one the husband and two men living together one is the wife it is not surprising people are mixed up.

Back to God, scripture refers to God as masculine, though God is spirit, but the Father and the Son are referred to as masculine and as we know Jesus was a man, born of Mary by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

A lot of ideas come from false teaching, here is a common one, God shows his feminine side,

Matthew 23:37 (NKJV)
37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

This does not refer to God's feminine side as some think, He is giving us an example, they miss the word 'as'. Jesus used, 'what we see' examples all the time.

Wisdom when referred to in the Bible is often referred to as a feminine side,

Proverbs 1:20 (NKJV)
20 Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares.

Proverbs 8:11 (NKJV)
11 For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.

In the NT we are told Jesus is the wisdom of God

1 Corinthians 1:24 (NKJV)
24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Let us go back to Genesis

Genesis 1:26-27 (NKJV)
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; (then male and female are added) male and female He created them.

God, in the person of Jesus Christ, was born man, and desires to draw us into a relationship with him.

God is masculine throughout scripture, to think of Him as anything else is not true with scripture. So why do some get confused? Because they look at God in earthly terms not God's terms, they try fit God into there views as experienced on earth.

God is Spirit, The Father and the Son are male, the spirit of God is also male.

God created man in His image, male image. God created woman from the rib of man, therefore in His image he created them.

He created woman to be a companion to man, to be a wife for man, to go forth and multiply, that is how God created man and woman.

God doesn't need to multiply, the God-head is complete.

Only humans, animals, birds and fish, plus creepy crawly things, everything has a purpose on earth, can multiply.

This is the way God has chosen to reveal Himself to us. God is never described with sexual characteristics in the Scriptures, but He does consistently describe Himself in the masculine gender.

Yes I agree, but I understand ppl who say He's not male, cause He's not just a man. His traits are quite masculin. If God was a woman, there would be no punishment and a pharisee would get an: awww you poor thing. Were your parents not nice to you?
On the other hand He can comfort us like a mother, so He's more than what I see here on earth as male.

If a man raises kids alone, they miss something he can't give them and if a mom raises kids alone, they miss something. But God can be both dad and mom and everything you need.

God will always be more than man, He is God, He is creator, we mustn't compare God with man and woman, doing so it trying to fit him into our thinking, God is our creator, He knows what we are going to say before we say it, He knows the number of hairs on our head, we are finite, God is infinite, His understanding, His abilities, His love with goodness and mercy are all limitless. The reason God can comfort us as He does is because God is Love, He loves you differently to me, He loves everyone differently but His Love is hesed, His love is agape love, we do not have these qualities.
