God Bears Your Losses With You

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time. Psalm 34:18-19

As you remember those who made tremendous sacrifices for you, those who have suffered greatly, and those who have experienced great loss, you may wonder where God is. From family tragedies to financial difficulties to serious health concerns, there are words of comfort you can offer those who are suffering, but there's no way you can mend broken hearts and crushed spirits.

When you reach your lowest moments, God remains near to you. Having suffered to the point of death on the cross, Jesus is no stranger to heartbreak. He won't leave you by yourself, and while there are some things in this life that can't be undone, the promise of God's presence in the midst of sorrow and pain can't be unraveled by any conflict or disaster.

Rescue may not look like the things you expect or want. However, in the midst of your deepest sorrows, you may find that God's comfort and presence can reach even further down than you have known. Perhaps the holidays in particular open up old wounds for you and your family. An empty seat at the table may tap into a new wave of grief. In these moments of brokenhearted grief, God is near.
