But you [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
As you read through the Old Testament, you see the account of God’s chosen nation—Israel—and how the Israelites so often turned away from the God who loved them. But you also read about how God never stopped loving His wayward people. For example, He said, “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son” (Hosea 11:1).
God wanted His people to understand how special they were to Him. And He wants you to know how valuable you are to Him today.
Today’s scripture verse tells you how special and important you—and every other Christian—are to God. But your specialness isn’t based on who you are or what you’ve done. It’s based solely on the fact that you are His “special possession” whom He so lovingly called “out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
Knowing that you are God’s special possession can help you to live unshakably for Him—today and every day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me Your “special possession.” I know there is nothing special about me except that You have brought me out of darkness and into the light through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
