The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17 ESV
Even though Israel was undergoing judgment at the time of Zephaniah, the prophet wanted them to know that “the day of the Lord is near” (Zephaniah 1:7 ESV). It would be a day in which He will have “prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.” He would save His people and rejoice over them with gladness.
Here, on Christmas Eve, the message remains the same. This world is under judgment, but the day of the Lord is near. It’s even nearer since the birth of Jesus. Until He returns in all His glory, and who call on Him will be saved.
As you consider the incarnation today consider the fact that the God of the universe loved you enough to leave heaven, take on flesh, speak words of life that you can still read and study, and then die a horrific death (and then rise again the third day) so you might be saved.
Consider God’s own response to your salvation. He will rejoice over you. Quiet you by His love, and exult over you with loud singing.
May you have a sense that He is doing all three for you today.
Prayer: Lord, I’m in awe over the incarnation. Quiet my heart today with Your love.
