Remember, O LORD, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD. Psalm 25:6-7
God’s character defines how He interacts with you, not the other way around. If you had to be on your best behavior in order to receive God’s mercy, you’d have no hope in the face of His holiness.
You can’t hide your sins from God, but you can still approach Him with confidence because of His unfailing love and mercy. Today’s psalm notes that in light of God’s mercy, you have access to Him. You’ve never been able to be good enough, but He has always been good enough to receive you.
When God remembers you, He doesn’t look at your failures, hypocrisies, and faults. He sees you with compassion as His beloved child. It’s this love that changes and transforms you, renewing you and drawing you near to Him on the merits of His unfailing love.
You don’t have to bring anything to God because He desires to show mercy and compassion to you. In the warm glow of His light your darkness is gone and you’re free to be loved by Him.
