God’s Foreordination is not Sin nor is it the Cause or Author of sin

In the NT, the Greek word proorizo occurs 6 times, in the KJV translated with 3 different synonyms: predestine(Rm8:28-30; Eph1:5,11), ordain(1Co2:7) and determined before, or predetermined(Act4:28). I will give 3 examples illustrating predetermination, 1 of which is Acts:4:28

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. (Acts 4:27-28, KJV)

God determined before but it was sinful men who did the action, the sinning, the evil. God did not cause or perform the sin, man did.

And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! (Luke 22:22, KJV)

God had determined but WOE to the man who did the betrayal, the sinful act. God had predetermined, but it was Judas who betrayed.

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. (1Pet 2:8, KJV)

The sinful disobedience had been appointed, or foreordained by God, but it was men who stumbled, that were those disobedient.

Notice, it was sinful man who did the sinful action, NOT God. God was not the cause of the sinful acts, man’s sinful nature was the cause. Are God’s elect just better than the non-elect? Did the elect just believe, coming from the ‘divine spark’ that is supposedly in man? Did the saved act in a way or do anything in order to become one of the elect of God? NO…

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (Eph 2:1-5, KJV)

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Eph 2:8, KJV)

The elect were just as bad sinners as the non-elect. There was nothing good to be found in the elect, causing God to choose them. God did not foresee a divine spark in them; they were just as sinful as the non-elect. That is why it is called “unconditional election”.

Does this make God partial, or a respecter of persons? NOT AT all, the election was UNCONDITIONAL. For God’s choice to be partial, there had to be something preferable like wealth, fame, basic goodness, etc. causing God’s choice for those selected. There was NONE!

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, (2Tim 1:9, KJV)

(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. (Rom 9:11-13, KJV)

“God hath before the foundation of the world, foreordained some men to eternal life, through Jesus Christ, to the praise and glory of His grace; leaving the rest in their sin to their just condemnation, to the praise of His justice.” Sect III First London Confession of Faith 1644/1646, Baptist
