And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of [mine] hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for [it is] he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as [it is] this day. While roaming in the desert, the people of Israel had every reason to rely on God for their food, water, and safety. However, the scripture passage above suggests that the wealth and bountiful harvests they dreamed about had the potential to lead them to forget about God.
You may also have a sense of your need for God in a time of struggle, uncertainty, or fear. It’s easy to pray and to depend on God when you feel life is beyond your control. Yet financial security and prosperity can change your heart’s priorities. Suddenly, there’s an illusion that everything you needed God to provide can come directly from your bank account.
Guard your mind from relying on your own resources and taking the credit for the provision that only God deserves. Remember when you’ve been in need and how God has been faithful to you so that you never think too highly of yourself.
Prayer: Father, You have graciously provided what I need and cared for me in seasons of struggle and uncertainty. Help me to keep Your care and provision at the front of my mind.
