Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where [are] all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites." Judges 6:13
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he thought he was perhaps speaking with a prophet--and immediately displayed his lack of faith. When the angel told him that God was with him, Gideon said that didn't seem likely. Then when the angel told him, "Go in this might of yours" (Judges 6:14-15), Gideon basically responded, "Might schmight! I belong to the weakest clan in Manasseh." He showed lack of trust at every turn.
God did an astonishing miracle right before Gideon's eyes. You'd think that would have convinced him. No, He required more signs to bolster his weak faith (Judges 6:36-40). Right up until the moment he was about to attack, he needed continual encouragement to give him the faith to act (Judges 7:9-15).
What does it take to convince you to trust the Lord for a miracle in your life? If God speaks to you clearly, does small miracles, leads you to powerful promises in His Word, do you still struggle with stepping out in faith? Or are you "strong in faith, giving glory to God" (Romans 4:20)?
Prayer: Dear Father, give me the faith to trust You. Help me not to be weak and full of unbelief, constantly needing reassurances that You're with me.
