Another thread that appeared here on TJ recently got me thinking about Giants again. The theory goes something like this. (Admittedly, much of this is speculation)
God promised Canaan to Abraham's descendents. But while they were in captivity in Egypt (roughly 430 years or so), and then wondering in the wilderness for another 40 years or so. Other people started inhabiting this land.
Some people believe Satan influenced these people to take over this land so that God's promise to Abraham would not be realized. To make sure the Israelite's wouldn't inhabit this land he had several races of Giants set up
camp here. So when Joshua, Gideon, Caleb, and David were "cleaning out" this land, what they were really doing is killing off the races of Giants. Also God created the earth for human men to subdue and rule over. (not Giants).
Gen 6:4; The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Some take this verse to mean the "sons of God" were angels and "the daughter of men" were human women, and this is were the Giants came from. More about this verse later.
Num 13:33; "There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
It says here "we were like grashoppers in their sight". The sight of the Nephilim and Anakim. Could it be they were much larger people?
Deut 1:28; 'Where can we go up? Our brethren have made our hearts melt, saying, "The people are bigger and taller than we; the cities are large and fortified to heaven. And besides, we saw the sons of the Anakim there."'
Deut 2:10; (The Emim lived there formerly, a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim.
Deut 2:11; Like the Anakim, they are also regarded as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emim.
Deut 2:20; (It is also regarded as the land of the Rephaim, for Rephaim formerly lived in it, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummin,
Deut 2:21; a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim, but the LORD destroyed them before them. And they dispossessed them and settled in their place,
The verse above is particularly interesting because it says they destroyed the Rephaim (or Zamzummin) "a people as tall as the Anakim". Then they took up inhabitance were these people were living.
Deut 9:2; a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, 'Who can stand before the sons of Anak?'
Jos 11:21; Then Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
Jos 11:22; There were no Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod some remained.
Again we see, Joshua UTTERLY destroyed the Anakim "in the land of the sons of Israel" (Canaan). But there were still some Giants in other places.
Jos 14:12; "Now then, give me this hill country about which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD has spoken."
Jos 14:15; Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.
2 Sam 21:22; These four were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
1 Chr 20:4; Now it came about after this, that war broke out at Gezer with the Philistines; then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the giants, and they were subdued.
1 Chr 20:6; Again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot; and he also was descended from the giants.
1 Chr 20:8; These were descended from the giants in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
Jos 15:14; Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the children of Anak.
Jdg 1:20; Then they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had promised; and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.
1 Sam 17:7; The shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred shekels of iron; his shield-carrier also walked before him.
We don't know exactly how much a shekel of iron weighed, but it is guessed that it was slightly less than an ounce. If this is correct, then just the head of the spear above weighed about 40 pounds.
The verse below talks about 300 shekels of bronze. Bronze is heavier than Iron.
2 Sam 21:16; Then Ishbi-benob, who was among the descendants of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, was girded with a new sword, and he intended to kill David.
2 Sam 21:18; Now it came about after this that there was war again with the Philistines at Gob; then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Saph, who was among the descendants of the giant.
2 Sam 21:20; There was war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant.
2 Sam 21:19; There was war with the Philistines again at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
2 Sam 21:20; There was war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also had been born to the giant.
Yet another race is mentioned. The Gittites, Goliath was a Gittite from Gath. Gaza is in modern day Palestine. Ironically, the Palestinians are still fighting over the land of Israel that God promised to Abraham.
1 Chr 11:23; He killed an Egyptian, a man of great stature five cubits tall. Now in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam, but he went down to him with a club and snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.
Now we see and Egyptian that was 5 cubits tall. A cubit is about 46 centimeters. This guy would have been 230 centimeters tall. (92 inches, or about 7 foot 7 inches)
1 Chr 20:5; And there was war with the Philistines again, and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
1 Sam 17:4; Then a champion came out from the armies of the Philistines named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
A cubit is about 46 inches. A span is the distance from the tip of your pinky to the tip of your thumb with your hand spread, so roughly 7 or 8 inches. Goliath would have been about 284 centimeters tall. Or about 9 foot, 4 inches.
We don't know how some Angels are. It may be that they are different sizes. It has been suggested that the sizes in 2 Chron were "life sized". If so, some Angels were pretty big.
2 Chr 3:11; The wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits; the wing of one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub.
2 Chr 3:12; The wing of the other cherub, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house; and its other wing of five cubits was attached to the wing of the first cherub.
Why would it matter how big an Angel is? The following verses are from the book of Enoch. Of course Enoch isn't a cannonized book of the Bible, but it does make for interesting speculation.

And Semjaza, who was their leader, said unto them: 'I fear ye will not 4 indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.' And they all answered him and said: 'Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations 5 not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.' Then sware they all together and bound themselves 6 by mutual imprecations upon it. And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn 7 and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And these are the names of their leaders: Samlazaz, their leader, Araklba, Rameel, Kokablel, Tamlel, Ramlel, Danel, Ezeqeel, Baraqijal, 8 Asael, Armaros, Batarel, Ananel, Zaqiel, Samsapeel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. These are their chiefs of tens.

1 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.
This is similar to Genesis 6.
Gen 6:2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years."
Gen 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Some believe this was the sin of the angels mentioned in Jude.
Jude 1:6; And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
Jude 1:7; just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
You may not agree wth the views above (I can't say I blame you) but still, Giants were in the Bible. They were inhabiting Canaan and they were driven out, that much is in the Bible.
