Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: ... Who satisfies your mouth with good [things], [So that] your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:2, 5 Most men—unless they have some food allergy—eat pretty much whatever they want in their youth. And in this fast-paced society, this frequently means lots of fast food, processed foods, and unhealthy meals. But often when they reach middle age, decades of a decadent diet catch up in the form of blocked arteries, diseases, and other body ailments. Most men frankly know better. They often read snatches about good nutrition in the media or meet others who preach the values of eating healthy and cutting junk food from their diet. Yet they ignore the warnings, assuring themselves that they have an “iron gut” and will be exempt from the maladies that strike so many in their later years. The Bible says, “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good” (Isaiah 55:2). Too many men spend money on food that doesn’t satisfy their body’s basic nutritional needs, but all the while, the Bible is pleading for them to listen carefully and eat what is good. The happy news is, unless you’re too far gone, you can start eating healthy today and reap the benefits; your youth will be renewed like the eagles.
