For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8.38-39 NRSV)
When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor at the start of WW II, Harry Brown, an Air Force pilot had just returned from a late-night celebration. In an attempt to defend against the attack, he raced to the flight line and took off in a P-36 (airplane)--still wearing his tuxedo trousers and a pajama top.
He obviously had not planned to go flying that night! He was caught off guard. Life has a way of catching us like that. We never know. The older we get the more aware we are of life's uncertainty.
However, this Christian celebration of Jesus’ birth, the coming of the long awaited Messiah, takes a lot of life’s uncertainty away. Will you let Jesus do that to your life?
Dear God, bring your peace and certainty into my life through the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
