The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: 2 To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, Proverbs 1:1-2
Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt (1 Kings 4:30). He spoke some three thousand proverbs during his lifetime and wrote more than one thousand songs (1 Kings 4:32). Here, at the beginning of the books of Proverbs, the believer is told that Solomon recorded his wisdom so that the people of God could have greater insight.
How many times have you worked your way through the book of Proverbs? Can you cite its wisdom regarding topics such as pride, money, discipline, hard work, prudence, inheritance, justice, bitterness, anger, patience, the tongue, wine, purity, and nearly anything else you need to know? If it's been awhile since you've studied the book, this is the perfect time to do so again.
As you begin working your way through Proverbs, ask the Lord each day what He wants you to learn this time through. Take notes as you go, and end each session with a prayer of dedication to follow through.
Prayer: Father, I confess to often turning to other books and other sources for wisdom, when Your book of wisdom is always available. Speak to me in a fresh way as I work my way back through Proverbs.
