Exactly. That is what the Apostle has been saying the whole time. "In ourselves we are foolish and weak." O you Corinthians you are wise and strong, but we aren't. We are foolish and weak; and because of that we are dishonourable, we are despised.
And there can be no doubt concerning what he meant when he said, "We are fools" He simply meant that he preached the gospel of Christ crucified, the folly of the kerygma, which is despised by men and by the world.
Are we willing to be ridiculed for our message?...... How many of us are tempted to compromise the gospel because it is unpopular and despised?
Today there is danger in seeking to make it respectable. It is not. Reasonable, yes. Respectable, no. We are fools for Christ's sake; and I'd be willing to be a fool for His sake; I would not be willing to be a fool for anybody else's sake, but for His sake who was despised and rejected and ridiculed, and who said, "Blessed are ye when men revile you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.........'Fools for Chist's sake.
We are not only fools, we are weak. Paul has already said that he visited Corinth in weakness. And just as the person with intellectual ability finds it hard to become a fool, so the person with a strong personality finds it hard to become weak.
But we have to be willing to be 'foolish and weak' in order that it may be evident and obvious that all our wisdom and our power are His.
