And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men." They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Mark 1:16-18 NKJV
Seeking after truth will, by necessity, take you from lesser understanding to greater. The things you thought were the answer turned out to be just the foundation for understanding them better. Following the greater truth takes time and adaptability. At least, that’s how it was with Andrew.
Andrew was John the Baptist’s disciple, and he was there when the locust-eating preacher identified Jesus as the Lamb of God (see John 1:35-40). “The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is, the Christ)” (John 1:41).
After spending time with Jesus, Andrew was convinced. Then, when Jesus called Andrew and Simon, they dropped their livelihoods and former ways of thinking and became His disciples.
As you grow in your faith, don’t be afraid to let go of previous understandings when God has shown you new ways to trust Him, new ways to think, and new jobs to do. Follow Him as well as you can, and when you know Him better, follow closer.
Prayer: Jesus, show me how to follow You more closely as I grow in my faith.
