But Moses protested to God, "Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?" God answered, "I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain." Exodus 3:11-12
Moses didn't jump at the chance to deliver Israel. He had spent his first forty years in Egypt and blown his exit badly. He spent the next forty years in the wilderness, staying out of trouble but hiding from his past. So, in a sense, he was right; he had no business going back to Egypt or leading God's people. But in God's eyes, that made him the perfect candidate. At that point, Moses didn't need to see himself as he was, but to see God as He is.
God can handle your doubts, if you don't let them obscure your view of Him. Don't let fear make you forget who is calling you to serve Him. You have chosen to ally yourself with the great "I AM" (Exodus 3:14). In Hebrew, it's Ehyeh, which is God's identity, His name. Almighty God wanted Moses to know Him on a deeply personal level, anticipating the access you now have to Him through Jesus.
The next time you face an overwhelming situation, remember that God is with you. You know Him on a first name basis: Jesus.
