Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, "The LORD [be] with you!" And they answered him, "The LORD bless you!" Ruth 2:4

When you’re first introduced to Boaz, a key character in the beautiful story of redemption that is the book of Ruth, you get a pretty good idea of what kind of man he is. After he greets his workers with a hearty “The Lord be with you!” they respond with an equally enthusiastic “The Lord bless you!”

These words give you a great first impression of Boaz, don’t they? Right away, you know that Boaz is a godly man who apparently treats his servants with kindness and compassion, and you know they know him as a man who loves God and others.

As you make your way through Ruth’s story, you find that your first impressions of Boaz are well-founded. He indeed is a man who loves God and cares for the well-being of those who enter his sphere of influence.

Someone has rightly observed that you have only one chance to make a first impression. What kind of first impression do your words and actions make on those you meet? Do you think people who encounter you know right away that you’re a man who loves God and loves other people—no matter their position in life—and wants to bless them?

That’s a first impression any follower of Jesus should want to make on everyone he meets.
