"While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease." Genesis 8:22

For most people, autumn is a welcome season of cooler days after a hot summer. “Like the cold of snow in time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters” (Proverbs 25:13).

The leaves of the trees change to yellow, orange, and red, and swirl to the ground in a melee of beauty. Overhead, geese form great Vs and wing south. Gardens overflow with bounty. Fields of grain stand ready to be harvested. For this reason, most weddings in Israel happened after all the harvests were in. It was a festive, happy season. “You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest” (Isaiah 9:3).

There are also natural periods of harvest in life, when God brings hard work to fruition. They make up for lean times, and allow you to catch up on your bills. Enjoy these times of refreshing.

There are also seasons of spiritual refreshing. The most important one is when God’s presence first comes into your life. Peter told the crowds, “Repent…and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19).
