"When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, 'Come in and eat with me'? No, he says, 'Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.' And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. Luke 17:7-9 NLT
While teaching His disciples about faith, sin, and obedience, Jesus summed up His discourse with a simple example of a servant knowing his place in the household. A servant takes care of his assigned work, ensures that his master has been cared for, and then addresses his own needs. By the same token, Jesus wants His disciples to see themselves realistically, not placing their own desires and needs over the work God has called them to do.
You may seek to increase your faith in God today, and perhaps the best way to do that is to see yourself first and foremost as His servant. Ask God what He has called you to do, and then diligently work at it. While doing God’s work, you’ll find the provision you need, and you’ll also find contentment. Rather than giving in to your desires to increase your place in life, you can find contentment and peace in your place as God’s servant under God’s care.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to see myself as Your humble servant.
