Then Moses said to them: "If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves before the LORD for the war, "and all your armed men cross over the Jordan before the LORD until He has driven out His enemies from before Him, "and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward you may return and be blameless before the LORD and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. Numbers 32:20-22 NKJV
As the tribes of Reuben and Gad arrived at the land east of the Jordan, they liked what they saw. They had room for their huge herds of livestock, so they approached Moses and Eleazar to see if they could keep this portion of land for their inheritance. After much discussion, Moses agreed, reminding the two tribes that they would still need to help the other tribes fight their enemies.
The Christian life is one of being sensitive to the spiritual battles other believers face and being willing to show up and fight alongside them. It might mean getting involved in some sticky situations. It might mean being available twenty-four hours a day. Or it might mean using resources for others that you had planned to use for your family. But this is the call of the believer. Have you been faithful to answer it?
Prayer: Lord, make me more sensitive to the spiritual needs of the believers You’ve placed around me. And may I always be willing to do and give more in service to them.
