Hi all

I hope everyone is well

I wonder if i could trouble you with a worry of mine. Around a month ago i was really struggling with some verses from 1 John about salavtion. It really got me down, one day at work i was looking through some online bibles and i thought to my self " i really hate this book " not the bible - just 1 john. of course a day later i know i didnt hate it - although i may have thought and felt it at the time - i love all the bible but deep down i was really struggling with some of the verses and in my frustration i guess i felt that emotion. this got me really worried about had i blasphemed the holy spirit. I went and checked on got questions, and tried to find out the inspiration for the bible - it was of course as i thought Gods word

" God divinely influenced the human authors of the Scriptures in such a way
that what they wrote was the very Word of God. "

" Another verse that deals with the inspiration of the Scriptures is 2 Peter
1:21. This verse tells us that "prophecy never came by the will of man, but
holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirt"

I told my self that God knows my heart, and he would have know what i was struggling through, and that i no way was i dileberatly trying to blashempe him or the holy spirit. As i have said this has worried me a lot since that day, of course i have repented but worry I have blashemed the holy spirit especially in the light of what I have read below from a webpage

"It is the same with the Lord's Word. Some people do not know that it is
different from other books. They may criticize its language and speak
against it, but perhaps by and by they will learn that it is Divine and love
it. They are speaking a word against the Son of man, which may be forgiven
them; for the letter of the Bible, like the natural body of the Lord, is
taken from men and may be called the Son of man. But if one feels the
holiness and goodness of the Bible and hates it, he is closing his mind to
the only power that can help him. This is blaspheming against the Holy
Spirit, and it cannot be forgiven, because there is no other power to save
and protect us.

The same lesson is taught in the second Commandment: "Thou shalt not take
the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him
guiltless that taketh His name in vain." When people speak against the Lord
or the Bible and holy things, let us hope that they do it without really
knowing the Divineness of these things. "Father, forgive them; for they know
not what they do." But how very necessary it is for us who do know how holy
and Divine the Lord and the Bible are, not to speak carelessly of them, and
not to neglect or disobey them"

I Have taken some comfort from the part which says " Father forgive them
for they know not what they do " and in no way was i hating the whole bibile or closing my mind to it - quite the oppostite i guess - i was really
struggling with some of the verses. Do you think I am OK? I think i can
honestly say i didnt fully understand the inspiration/ writiing of the bible at that moment in time
or i wouldnt have gone on to got questions looking for answers. Also at
the time at did it I was not delibratly trying to blasheme the Holy Spirit.
Infact the verse " Father forgive them for they know not what they do" is
really reassuring - especially if i align it to all my worries here - what
do you think?

Thankyou so so much for taking the time to read all this, i pray you will
have time to answer so I can relax a bit, and at the same time i want to say thanks to God becauase whilst writing this i do appear to feel better. Also i have to go to court as a witness in a week, i will have to swear under oath, on the bible thats not blashmony of the holy spirit is it?

its a good verse i think " Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)"

God Bless

Ahhh Slimsavery your post is heartfelt and honest, you are so right that the Lord sees your heart, and you said or thought those things in the heat of the moment and you just didn't know any better. You know now..right? You know now, that the Word of God is Holy and not to be criticized...and if next time you are frustrated with something, you will take a different approach.

Be at peace about your repentance and you turned to God and not away from Him. This is all that matters. It's funny the one verse that came to my mind straight away comes from the book that you were becoming upset about. God Bless You.

1John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Jesus is Lord

I can not judge you, but if you did get upset towards anything written in the bible, that's usually our flesh being rebellion to the truth in front of us.

You have confess, and repented, I believe God knows your heart.

Romans 8
Life Through the Spirit
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Remove all guilt, move forward in your walk with the Lord.

I will keep you in my prayers, that God will reveal himself even more to you and that his light with remove all confusion in your bible study.

Thank
God

Forgiven

Thankyou both for your replies, they are so so helpful. Obviously in my past i have know that the Bible is from God ( or i guess i wouldnt have been on these forums for the last year ), but in that period of time i when i got angry i was not trying in any way to blashpheme the inspiration behind it. or God. As i have written i didnt fully underrstand the ispiration ( the holy spirit ), or had i guess maybe heard it before but forgotton -even if i knew the bible was from God ,and if God knows my heart - and he does, then as you guys have said i will be fine and give praise that God can forgive me.

its so good to come on here and talk, it helps so much - would you say im ok with what ive written here?

god bless and thanks again

out of intrest and on a slightly different topic, i have found out that a christian should not swear on the bible. I have no problem with that, except in my past i have - even when i was born again. I did not know it was a sin. but not anymore - im much better, and i belive god knows i was ill - im comfertable with the fact that i broke "solem vows " to God during this time - beacase i was ill, well not comfertable that i did it, but have peace in the fact the im forgiven. I belive God will forgive a any broken solem vow - as long as you dont take advantage of this - any thoughts on this?

"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes ' be 'Yes,' and your 'No ,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one" (Matthew 5:33-37).

" James 5:12 (New Living Translation)
New Living Translation (NLT)
Holy Bible. New Living Translation copyright © 1996, 2004 by Tyndale Charitable Trust. Used by permission of Tyndale House Publishers.

12 But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned "

i think it is summed up pretty well in this expananition, but what worries me is the comdemed part above

" Now it is the lack of faith that must appall James in the act of swearing. It is unbelief that would move his readers to try to save themselves by a manipulative use of oaths. It is through lack of faith that we disbelieve God's "compassion and mercy" and so want to strike a bargain. Striking a bargain with God cuts at the very heart of the gospel; it is an attempt to rely on the worth of one's own offering instead of relying on God's grace in the offering of Christ on the cross. Bargaining is a reliance on works; James is insisting that we rely on grace. He is again teaching the opposite of what some have portrayed as an anti-Pauline works-righteousness. James says above all and you will be condemned because he is addressing not just a simple matter of dishonesty but a fundamental lack of faith and denial of grace. Above all makes sense if it introduces not just 5:12 but this entire final section of the letter, in which faith is the real focal point.

Now we can see the proper application of 5:12. We are getting sidetracked if we focus on whether Christians should take oaths in courts of law. We are being too superficial if we see this verse merely as an injunction against "frivolous and indiscriminate oaths and the thoughtless mention of the divine name" because such speech would violate God's law and hinder one's witness to unbelievers (Tasker 1983:125). Those are important matters, but James is here (as usual) cutting to an essential difference between genuine and false religion. He is saying: Do not allow suffering to pressure you into unbelief. Do not try to impress each other or to manipulate God as if your works were what counted instead of God's grace. If you are trusting in God's grace, you have no need to impress God or people, and you can be at peace with saying honest words. Integrity should characterize Christians, and integrity will flow from wholehearted reliance on grace. Unbelief manifests itself in bargaining, manipulating and trying to impress. The opposite manifestation, flowing from faith, will be prayer."

I take it thats a forgivable sin - the bit i have highlighted in red and orange above and that god understands when you become a christiian that you dont know everything and its all a learning process. I understand not to swear now, on anything, but ive only just realised - i just hope this wasnt the unforgivable sin or blashmony against the Holy Spirit. i pray im not condemened

God Bless

As long as a person is repentant they will be ok, and God will accept them.
The danger begins when hearts become heardened, and people refuse, or cannot repent. There is no forgiveness if any refuse it.

Also 'blasphemy of the Holy Spirit' is attributing the works of God to satan....as was the case with Jesus.

Hi

Thanks again for all your replies. If i could trouble tou with one last thing thaty is REALLY bothering me. I think i may have blashemed the spirit in the way Stephen says. I was on a flight for work a few weeks back. I was watching a film called Borat - in it he visits a minister and in fun - ie he was making a rise of the minister he was, what i knoww know to be called `slain in the spirit `- although he wasnt really, it was for show if you like.. I had been taught that `slain in the spirit` is not from God - but please dont get me wrong im not trying to get into a debate about that - every one should do what they think is right. However after the film i thought to myself that the `slain in the spirit ` is the work of the devil. I dont know why i had to think/belive so harshly but i did. since then I have worried i have blashemed the spirit. I hope God can see my heart and know i was acting on information i had heard before, and that i was - if you like attacking the pastors who do this - my intention was in no way to blasheme gods work or that of the Holy spirit - but if i look at the big picture i might well have. I am feeling seriously down over this - ive just got to work and i need help!

on got questions it has a good article about `slain in the spirit`, but what if it is from God - then ive blasphemed the spirit. i dont know what to do. I can only take comfort in this;

"In any case, it is clear that what Jesus spoke of was willful speaking against the Holy Spirit. That is not something done in ignorance or some unwanted thought the devil puts in our mind to accuse us. We are all tempted in many things. Jesus' illustration of temptation to commit fornication is an example of the distinction between temptation and sin of adultery as being when a man looks on a woman to lust after her..." Sin is not when temptation confronts us. "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed"

" It is through the Holy Spirit that we receive this love for God.
Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the holy spirit which is given unto us.
If we had committed the sin against the Holy Spirit, the Spirit would not be causing us to love God. We simply would not care. The fact that we love God is the very thing that causes so much anxiety at the possibility of being alienated from Him"

and that many people have told me if i still want to be with God - and i do so so much, more than anythig, then i havent committed this sin.

i just want to say right now i dont know if slain in the spirit is from God or not, but either way i will never put anything down to the devils work, i just hope im still saved. I know some people will say you cant blasheme the spirit in this age, but then some people say you can - and I am so worried that if you can, i might have. i dont know hat to do........

please help

can anyone help with my above post. I hope I can rely on the fact that God knows my heart and i meant no harm. there was nothing wilful going on in terms of attackin god or the spirit

I know that people do in fact get slain in the Spirit. God can do mighty works in a person when this happens. In fact today it happened to me.

I do not know the answer to your question unfortunately about whether you have committed that sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

God bless

Thanks - i appreciate your honest reply. As i wrote originally i really dont want this to get into a debate is slain in the spirit is from God - some people think it is, some dont;

"We are not claiming that all examples of being "slain in the Spirit" are fakes or responses to a touch or push. Many people experience an energy or a force that causes them to fall back. However, we find no Biblical basis for this concept. Yes, there may be some energy or force involved, but if so, it is very likely not of God, and not the result of the working of the Holy Spirit"
source - got questions

When i thought it was `from the devil` - and i wish i hadnt, i was acting on information/thoughts that had been given to me before - and i pray God knows this in my heart - either way Ii was acting innocently in thinking what i thought, sincerly no malice was intended to God or the Spirit - I am praying God understands:shock:

Hi all

felling a lot lot better today, i hope i havent casued offence to anyone, I prayed a lot last night over all i have written in this topic. a verse came to me, Romans 8:1, THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, {who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.} This is very comferting, i know God knows my heart - I i know that the Holy spirit is still convicting me of sin. Therfore i have absoultly nothing to worry about - Amen.

Its time for me to move on from all this worry. Its a real step for me to come to this conclusion without having to rely on checking on the internet for various things. perhaps I have been put through all this worry so i can really grow in my faith. In the past i have been guilty of relying in some ways on other peoples views, rather than mine own, gained from spending time with God.

I wonder if the modertor could possibly close this thread, this may sound strange, but sometimes i really worry about peoples replies ( no offence entended ) and now I have found peace its best for me to leave this thread as it is.
