Hi all
I hope everyone is well
I wonder if i could trouble you with a worry of mine. Around a month ago i was really struggling with some verses from 1 John about salavtion. It really got me down, one day at work i was looking through some online bibles and i thought to my self " i really hate this book " not the bible - just 1 john. of course a day later i know i didnt hate it - although i may have thought and felt it at the time - i love all the bible but deep down i was really struggling with some of the verses and in my frustration i guess i felt that emotion. this got me really worried about had i blasphemed the holy spirit. I went and checked on got questions, and tried to find out the inspiration for the bible - it was of course as i thought Gods word
" God divinely influenced the human authors of the Scriptures in such a way
that what they wrote was the very Word of God. "
" Another verse that deals with the inspiration of the Scriptures is 2 Peter
1:21. This verse tells us that "prophecy never came by the will of man, but
holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirt"
I told my self that God knows my heart, and he would have know what i was struggling through, and that i no way was i dileberatly trying to blashempe him or the holy spirit. As i have said this has worried me a lot since that day, of course i have repented but worry I have blashemed the holy spirit especially in the light of what I have read below from a webpage
"It is the same with the Lord's Word. Some people do not know that it is
different from other books. They may criticize its language and speak
against it, but perhaps by and by they will learn that it is Divine and love
it. They are speaking a word against the Son of man, which may be forgiven
them; for the letter of the Bible, like the natural body of the Lord, is
taken from men and may be called the Son of man. But if one feels the
holiness and goodness of the Bible and hates it, he is closing his mind to
the only power that can help him. This is blaspheming against the Holy
Spirit, and it cannot be forgiven, because there is no other power to save
and protect us.
The same lesson is taught in the second Commandment: "Thou shalt not take
the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him
guiltless that taketh His name in vain." When people speak against the Lord
or the Bible and holy things, let us hope that they do it without really
knowing the Divineness of these things. "Father, forgive them; for they know
not what they do." But how very necessary it is for us who do know how holy
and Divine the Lord and the Bible are, not to speak carelessly of them, and
not to neglect or disobey them"
I Have taken some comfort from the part which says " Father forgive them
for they know not what they do " and in no way was i hating the whole bibile or closing my mind to it - quite the oppostite i guess - i was really
struggling with some of the verses. Do you think I am OK? I think i can
honestly say i didnt fully understand the inspiration/ writiing of the bible at that moment in time
or i wouldnt have gone on to got questions looking for answers. Also at
the time at did it I was not delibratly trying to blasheme the Holy Spirit.
Infact the verse " Father forgive them for they know not what they do" is
really reassuring - especially if i align it to all my worries here - what
do you think?
Thankyou so so much for taking the time to read all this, i pray you will
have time to answer so I can relax a bit, and at the same time i want to say thanks to God becauase whilst writing this i do appear to feel better. Also i have to go to court as a witness in a week, i will have to swear under oath, on the bible thats not blashmony of the holy spirit is it?
its a good verse i think " Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)"
God Bless
I hope everyone is well
