He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. Psalm 107:29-30 NKJV
Strong faith requires tests. In today’s portion of scripture, those who did business on the water experienced turbulent seas. Those who were on board reeled to and from, staggering like drunk men. They cried out to the Lord and He calmed the storm, strengthening their faith before the next storm they would surely encounter.
In Romans 5:3-4, Paul wrote, “But we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character hope.” Such hope builds trust in the Lord because a believer has experienced His guiding hand.
Are you in the middle of a storm right now? Know that it is designed to lead you to hope in the Lord. Don’t get so caught up in how high the waves are that you can’t see Jesus as He extends His hand toward you. He is there, just waiting for you to call out to Him. Once you do, you can trust Him—both in your current storm and in all your future ones.
Prayer: Father, I’m just like the people on this ship in today’s verses. I see the high waves and strong wind and I fear they will overwhelm me. Help me to see that You are always with me in the storms I’m facing.
