Expect Hardship

Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.") Romans 8:35-36

When hardship comes, and it will, you’ll find out how strong your faith is. But how can God allow His own children to be persecuted, or starve, or be threatened with death? Doesn’t He promise to protect His followers?

After all, Job 5:11 says, “He gives prosperity to the poor and protects those who suffer.” And Psalm 12:7 tells you, “Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving the forever from this lying generation.” And Proverbs 19:23 promises, “Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm.”

In some instances, God does intervene—offering physical protection to advance His kingdom. In other cases, He offers spiritual protection against the advances of the enemy. And sometimes, He allows hardship, while preserving your soul.

Today’s verse quotes Psalm 44:22, and one aspect of it that’s hard to miss is this: Christians face death every day for the sake of the kingdom. But hardship never separates you from the love of Christ.
