I don't think there is an 'exhortion'
but there is a word
extortion
and it is too often that extortion is used
instead of
'exhortion'
properly said exhortation
it may help to look at the difference between the two
both can be used for achieving a purpose
for getting a point across
for getting the other person
or people to 'see'
more clearly
what it is
that you desire for them to 'see'
and all this can also be merely a way to get a result
both involves a 'giver' and a 'receiver'
let us look at an example
as Christians
there are times that a difference may arise
as for non-Christians
or even for a Christian and a non-Christian
and the example to be given does not exclude the myriad of differing differences between people
our example is for now
for Christians
some might say
non-people
those in the world
but not of it
“I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” John 17:14
how to sort a difference out?

manipulatory
selfishly
hatefully
blindly
arrogantly
insolently
greedily
pridefully
oppressively
brutally
threateningly
sensually
earthly
devilish
wanting only to extract something from the other
a confession
a change
an admission
an apology
submission

goods
service
honour
praise
work
and even the filthy demanding of exercising those things spiritual like speaking in tongues

and only true way to exercise the grace that is in us, through faith
is to exhort
so what is exhort and exhortation?
The word for exhort or exhortation
παρακαλέω
parakaleō
is also used widely throughout the New Testament for other words (see below)
and if you stop for a minute
and consider the overall ‘theme’ that this word parakaleō expresses
we see that the use of exhortation should be to point the other person to God through Christ
where, if they listen and take heed
if they will draw near to the Lord
and look to Him
alone
they will by direct result from such drawing near
receive the direction that the Lord has for them
and we can be assured and confident
that what results is from Him
and therefore good
and better
than the result we might foolishly
and forcibly seek by extortion.
