Soil erosion can be a source of danger, it is certainly a source of loss to modern agriculture. Vast open spaces were created to accommodate the modern farming machinery, hedges were rooted out, ditches were filled and tree's felled. Many acres of land were thereby left without their natural windbreaks. Wide expanses were exposed to the sun and to the air. Winds whipped up the dust and the rich top soil was blown away. Many such exposed areas were reduced to dust bowls

But soil erosion is not as serious as soul erosion. Do you find that you suffer at times from soul erosion? Moses did. Jethro Moses father-in-law noted Moses at his mammoth task of judging Israel, and counseled the delegation of his authority to able men who would thereby ease the burden of this daily chore. "Thou wilt surely wear away" said Jethro to Moses. O, the erosion of Christian service! The demands of life can wear us out! Time talents and even temper are often eroded with the multiplicity of the demans made upon us.

What can we do about it? First establish windbreaks. Maybe a farmer would plant rows of trees to reduce the drying and the stripping power of the wind. Our windbreak is devotion. We must place between ourselves and the winds of demand.....the first claim...... of our own souls.
"Take heed to thyself" said Paul to Timothy "for in so doing thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee" We must practise soul culture. With a strong diet of bible meditation, the reading of spiritual and challenging literature, and the engagement in periods of serious study. We must fortify ourselves against the outside pressure's.

Secondy we should develop soil binders. Our hearts must know the irrigation of the Spirit that comes to those that wait upon the Lord. "I will pour water on him that is thirsty, I will pour floods upon the dry ground" Frequent downpours of the Spirit will conserve our soul life.

Thirdly we must add new topsoil to eroded places Special seasons of prayer will enrich us. Is there not a need for more spiritual retreats where tired and harrassed servants of God may meet for spiritual renewal? New ideas could be injected, refreshing imparted, tensions released, erosion arrested. Such times give opportunity for self contemplation, receive new vision of possibilities in God.......AND LIVE AGAIN.
