God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27
Men and women have equal standing before God. Paul observed that “there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). However, God also designed male and female relationships to follow a pattern: God gave men the authority to take bottom-line responsibility for the welfare of women (1 Corinthians 11:3).
Both can show leadership and initiative, and they are “heirs together of the grace of life” (1 Peter 3:7), but there are certain responsibilities that fall to a man. And this is where too many guys have fallen short.
God meant for men and women to complement each other through physical and emotional differences. Respective roles are best defined and experienced in marriage, but they still play into everyday relationships. Even if you’re not married, you can still look out for a woman’s best interests and make her feel valuable, and she can still encourage you and show you respect.
If you’re married, when you both submit to God and follow His design for your relationship (Ephesians 5:23-33), good things will follow. If you’re single, practice emotional purity. If the woman you’re friends with isn’t going to be your wife, she may be another man’s wife in the future. So while you can enjoy Christian fellowship, be sure to keep your relationship pure and in the proper perspective.
