Changes and maturity in life comes “little by little.” You are tomorrow what you “do” and “think” about today. Change in your heart will not happen overnight. Your mind is a private domain and it takes toughness and discipline in the Word of God to keep it pure. You are responsible for what goes in and out of it. The sexually-charged culture in which we live is fueled by pornography, which results in: “I want what I want for immediate gratification.” This seduction treats people as sexual objects. Anyone can choose how they want to live. They are free to choose the actions, but not the results. They are free to have their kicks, but not avoid the kickbacks. They are free to make choices, but not to avoid the consequences.
The addiction of pornography is overwhelming because it is never satisfied; it must have something “new” over and over. This is why true repentance, accountability in a support group, self-discipline, and allowing the Word of God to wash over your heart and mind daily, are the first steps in overcoming the powerful addiction of pornography.
Here’s the question you ask yourself: “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? (2 Chronicles 19:2). Absolute not!
“Now therefore, let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, no partiality . . .” (19:7). If you are going to be a soldier for Christ, obey Him. “For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon YOU . . . Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s’” (2 Chronicles 20: 12-15).
God is ready to turn your instability into a strong tower and victory just as He did in Second Chronicles. Your destiny is not happiness, nor understanding, but holiness. Our Savior did not come to save us out of pity; He came to save us because He created us to be holy. When we walk in righteousness before Him, there is a confidence that puts a correct perspective on everything, including ‘not welcoming sin into our lives.’ “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17).
Friend, allow the Word of God to break over your heart and mind again and again. If you obey His principles, you will find a response from Him. He can take mistakes, false choices, or wrong turns and overrule them and use them positively and creatively for His final design.
“Set your mind on things above . . .” (Colossians 3:2).
“The mind controlled by the Spirit is life” (Romans 8:6).
“Forgetting those things which are behind” (Philippians 3:13).
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
Where the eye of the heart is focused, your lips and feet will quickly follow. Go before God each day and say, “Lord, this is my need for today. I don’t know about tomorrow, but I need You today. Help me today.” Praying for God to get you through the day will build your trust in Him and relieve the worry, one day at a time.
Sincerely in Christ, “Our Refuge . . . a shelter and strong tower from the enemy,”
