There is so much discouragement going around and we don't need to help discourage people. People will be discouraged if we don't encourage them. Everyone needs encouragement. "I didn't say anything," is sometimes the problem. It's not just that we say the wrong thing, but we don't say the right thing, either. People need to hear how you feel about them. I believe when we speak encouraging words to people, it actually gives them physical strength. Don't sit back and wait for someone to encourage you. You start the trend. Galatians 6:9,10-says don't grow weary doing good, for in due season we'll reap a reward. Therefore, as we have opportunity let us do good to all.
You can encourage people on purpose if you choose to. Ask God every day, "Who can I encourage today?" You can change and heal a relationship with words. You can find something good to say about anyone if you'll look for it. Isaiah 50:4-The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.
As a disciple, we should know how to speak things that build people up. That's one of the ways we show we are disciples. 1 Thessalonians 5:11-13-Encourage and build up one another and honor your leaders and those who minister among you.
Lord, may we make a commitment to encourage people on purpose. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Love in Christ,
Jan
