Dream a friend had.

Now, I can't tell you how frustrating this whole thing is with my friend he's more or less an agnostic he's not really sure of anything, he doesn't believe the Bible is the only Word of God, because it was written by people. I've prayed for him, I give him scripture, I'm trying! He's just really resistant about it all, like you wouldn't believe! Well, he keeps telling me about this dream he had about God, I was hoping some of you might help me help him understand!

Well, he says it's starts out by him seeing a warehouse, and he walks into it, and theres a dock and boat, and it's starts storming out, so he gets in the boat, and he floats out to sea, and it's lightning and there's a whirlpool in the water, and God calls his name, and he says he can't remember exactly what was said but something happened with a situation with a friend of his, and he says, I failed him God, and God says keep helping people. And then he asks God if he will join the CIA, because it's his dream(uh it's something he wants bad), but God doens't answer him, and he goes back to the dock and gets off the boat and walks out of the warehouse and wakes up.

Now ANY advice at all is very much appreciated.

Funny thing about God...He knows exactly what He is doing, we only get frustrated when we arn`t trusting Him :`)

Funny thing about us is...we expect others to believe God, even when we show by our words that we dont so much. :`(

My advice, keep praying for your friend, start believing God will answer your prayers.

1Jn 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

1Co 3:6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

1Co 3:9 For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.

Luke 8:15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

Blessings

Well, if your friend can't trust Scripture, it may be that God is trying a different approach to reach him, as in dreams like this.
Is he able to answer these questions:
Why get in a boat when there's a storm out and he's already safe in a shelter (warehouse)?
Does he trust the dream that GOD called his name? Is he willing to consider that God knows everything about him, including this desire to be in the CIA? That God knows he failed a friend in the past but still wants him to help other people? (That he is still good for something?)
Will your friend consider it to be God's fault if he does not join the CIA?
Does he expect God to bless him when he does not trust Him?

In a way, this dream could be his life: maybe he felt he took a chance, tried to help a friend (the storm) and failed (tried to help within his own power, which never seems to work). God calls upon him, by name, to take the risk again, but with God, not alone. Your friend is not up to it, seeks selfish desires (CIA), and they are not given to him. Rather than going forward with God and asking God what He wants him to do with his life, he returns to the same life he started with (warehouse). It would be interesting to know if the warehouse was empty or not.

I must tell you that I am not gifted for prophecy or foreknowledge, but these are things that I could see as I read the dream. I do not know your friend, nor pretend to know him spiritually, but maybe there's a little truth here. God has many ways to reach people, and the fact that your friend knew that it was God calling his name is a great thing. Your prayers are being answered, God is working on him, but it is still up to your friend to respond. Trust God to be creative!

It doesn't really sound like he is open to the Lord at this time in his life. Is he asking you questions about Christ or are you trying to answer what he's not asking?
Perhaps you could ask him what it would take for him to trust and believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Once he tells you, even jokingly, that it would take God to tell him or a sign from heaven, or whatever, pray for that to happen. Ask God to reach him in other ways too.
Tell him that he doesn't have to wait until he dies to stand in front of God to be judged for what he's done in his life. And there are no 'good people'. One way I illustrate that is: what if there is a fireman who rescues 3 people from a burning building, he's a good person, right? But what if this same person stole all the money you had? Do his 'good works' outweigh the fact that he took from you? Are you willing to forgive him because he saved someone else? Basically, does the good outweigh the bad? Most people say no, because they still don't have their money, and the good was not directed at them. In this same way, our 'good deeds' don't make our bad ones go away. And besides, our bad ones far exceed our good ones. We might do one good deed a day but lie, cuss, lust, etc all day long.
Another example I have heard is this: Picture the worst people you can think of, murderers, etc and put them at the lowest spot of the world, Death Valley. Picture normal, regular people, and place them at Denver, the Mile High city. Now picture really good people like Mother Teresa at Mt. Everest. All of us are in one of those categories. Now picture that God's standard for holiness is from the earth to the moon. None of us make it on our own. And from the moon, all of the earth looks the same, from the valley to the highest mountain. He'll never be good enough by himself. And if he really thinks he is, it's the sin of pride, and therefore disqualifies himself.

I find it very difficult to speak to people who ridicule my faith, I commend you that you are able to. Remember that Jesus did not nor the disciples did not stay where they were not wanted. Your friend is not rejecting you, but Christ, if he doesn't repent. In Revelation, there is the Lamb's Book of Life, and there are other books (plural). Most of the people who have lived and are living now will reject Christ. But God waits patiently and rejoices over each one that does repent and accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus.
