Don't Decay! - July 07, 2007
I read something very interesting about our bodies the other day. States Dr. Henry S. Lodge, "When you don't exercise, your muscles let out a steady trickle of chemicals that tell every cell to decay, day after day after day."
"Whoa!" I thought to myself. "I better start being more physically active!"
Did you know the same thing can happen to us spiritually?
We may start off as all excited for the Lord, and we're ready to turn over a new leaf, but then something comes up, and your good intentions are eventually forgotten. Or, perhaps you are already a Christian, but your neglect of your faith started with putting off your daily prayers, which then progress into a lie here, and an unkind word there. Before you know it, a subtle snow-ball effect is taking place, and your thoughts are becoming more lustful, your actions less loving, and your heart no longer desiring to put God first.
My friend, just as our bodies can become physically sick, so too can we become spiritually ill. And just as laziness can lead to soft muscles which have atrophied, likewise do our spirits suffer when we do not properly nurture it.
Prayer: "Dear God, create in me a new heart; one that hungers for Your word, and thirsts for Your righteousness. Help me to strengthen my desire to always place You first so that my life may be an honor to Your glory, and an example of Your truth and love to my friends, loved ones, and those I may meet. This I ask in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen."
