Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they [are] stronger than we." Numbers 13:30-31

The land of Canaan belonged to Israel. God has already promised it to them. But they still had to take possession of it. So, in obedience to God, they sent twelve spies—one from each tribe—who saw that it was indeed a land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27), just as God had promised (Exodus 3:8). But they also saw descendants of Anak there—people who were strong and tall—so they hesitated and issued an unfavorable report.

Caleb, however, wanted to go up at once to take possession of the land. His eyes weren’t on the circumstances, but on the Lord and His promises. The Lord was with the Israelites, but they only trusted in their own might. Sadly, their fear led to disobedience, even though they didn’t see things that way. They believed they were being astute and practical.

How often have you allowed fear to lead you astray? To procrastinate? To put off the very thing God leads you to do? Today is the day to throw off excuses.
