Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12
Timothy, who was called to minister, was to put off the cares of this world—namely the love of money that leads so many astray (1 Timothy 6:10). Instead, he was to fight the good fight of faith to advance the Gospel.
Timothy’s vocational calling might have been different from yours, but his spiritual calling was quite similar. You’re to be in the world, but not of it (John 17:15-17). You’re to set your mind on things above, not on the things of this earth (Colossians 3:2). You’re not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). As such, you’re called to fight the good fight as well.
How is your fight going? If you don’t sense a battle, then you probably aren’t engaged in one. If, however, you feel the tension between this world and the next, and are actively engaged in overcoming your sinful habits and tendencies, then you’re right where God wants you. Don’t stop now. The world needs to see your witness. Wrestle, fight, and pray because eternity is at stake for all of humanity.
