Should Christians participate in Diwali celebrations in the workplace such as a morning tea?

Should Christians participate in Diwali celebrations in the workplace such as a morning tea?

Hello JB87,
First welcome to Talk Jesus this online community of Christian Believers!
As to your question. Scripture says that "you shall have no other Gods before me" (Exodus 20:3, Deuteronomy 5:7). Celebrating "Diwali" which is for the incarnation of the god Vishnu, would go against what God has asked of us. So, I would say a Christian should not participate in this.

I'm not saying that it won't be difficult not doing so. For it will probably make you stand out, and might even be seen by some as being disrespectful. Still, you must ask yourself are you here to honor man or God and whose god should you be honoring? If possible excuse yourself, or wait until the celebration is over before starting the work day. Depending on when these celebrations happen.

Once again be welcome and I hope you will find fellowship with growth in His Word here at Talk Jesus.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
YBIC

Greetings @JB87

Welcome to the forum

Welcome Australia, it is a blessing that believers across the world can come together, in fellowship, pray and study, in Jesus Name.

Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights, it is not recommended for any Christian, it is Hindu worship, they do not worship the living God we do as Christians, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who shred His blood for us.

Nick has given you some good advice, we are praying for you.

Bless you

It depends, if you are just having a friendly drink and not actually praying to Visnu or assisting in a ritual, but are simply present, then I think it is ok.
Like if you went to an interfaith thing and somebody from another religion said a prayer... it's not going to hurt you spiritually IMO.

Paul basically talks about this in 1 Corinthians chapter 8 and chapter 10. I'll just say read that and ask God for guidance. It'll be ypur best chance of getting the right answer

No, not at all. Do nothing ''Diwali'' related. We serve a very jealous God.

Ex 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Depends. Are you expected to offer worship to a god other than the Lord God -- or is it more a community thing, showing consideration respect for other people's beliefs.

To turn it around. I'd fully understand a Muslim, for example, excusing themselves from a Christmas service -- but would find it a little odd if they refused to join in a Christmas dinner.
