My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways,. Proverbs 23:26 NIV
Remember back in school when your science teacher said it was time to go through the dissection portion of class? Often the unfortunate subject was a frog, but it might have been a different creature. The dissection elicited repulsed looks from some class members, but you learned there was more to a frog than warts and skin.
You can do that with God’s Word. Let’s do this first dissection together.
King Solomon wrote Proverbs 23:26. It’s possible he wrote it from his own wisdom and for his own son. It’s also possible it was presented as a word from God for His people.
My son: This refers to a younger family member who has much to learn.
Give me your heart: The decision to accept instruction should not be coerced.
Let your eyes delight in my ways:: The older and wiser knows more than the younger and inexperienced. This is not only a teachable moment but something that can and should be looked forward to.
Delight in God’s ways-stand unshakable.
Prayer: God, I could live detached from You. I could live like an outcast from Your family and find Your ways laughable. But that’s not how You want me to act. That’s not how You want me to live. Help me delight in Your ways.
