Nevertheless, listen to my prayer and my plea, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is making to you. May you watch over this Temple day and night, this place where you have said you would put your name. May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place. May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive. 2 Chronicles 6:29-21 NLT
Solomon was a lot of things. He was a king, a husband, and a father. He was also a writer, a lyricist, and the wisest man who ever lived. With all of that said, he had his faults. He allowed his many wives and concubines to turn his heart away from the Lord. Maybe that’s why he also had such a heart for intercessory prayer. He knew how easily humans could be drawn away from the Lord. In today’s verses, he prayed for the Lord to listen to his prayers and those of His people offered towards the temple.
What sort of devout prayers are you praying right now Who or what are they for? Are you asking the Father to answer other people/s prayers, then maybe checking in with them occasionally to see how God is responding? If not, take a page out of Solomon’s book and begin doing so today, putting your whole heart into such prayers.
Prayer: Father, hear the prayers of my family today. Attune Your ears to their requests. Please do the same for my friends and even my enemies.
