He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness. He gave them the lands of the Gentiles, And they inherited the labor of the nations, That they might observe His statutes And keep His laws. Praise the LORD! Psalm 105:43-45 NKJV
Today’s psalm recounts some of the key moments of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. This passage may give a clue as to why freedom the people received might have led them to a new type of bondage.
They left Egypt singing. They marched side by side as overcomers. God promised a land they could call their own. He gave them instructions on how to live this new, free life. The intent was that these people would have no reason to disobey. Yet they didn’t do what the Lord had told them to do. They did not follow God’s instructions. These people looked for wiggle room and enjoyed walking the edge of what God had said was acceptable. They often crossed that line. This response left them waiting in the wilderness for four decades.
God has given you instructions to follow. Take what you learn and follow His instructions. He has given you everything you need to obey. When you do, you’ll discover joy as you receive God’s gifts.
Prayer: Lord, my way has failed and continues to fail. Show Your way and help me to walk in Your steps.
