Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Psalm 37:3 NKJV

Do you ever move your heart to self-preservation mode? It’s a decision that says you will not be hurt again—you’ll make sure of it. This decision rejects trust as worthwhile. It stiff-arms friendship. It’s sarcastic in the presence of compassion. It leaves you distorted caricature of what you once were, and you bear little resemblance to the man God created you to be.

You’ve assumed responsibility for protecting your heart, and the acidic juices of bitterness are doing their best to destroy you. It’s almost as if you’ve agreed to allow life to set your teeth on edge, shake you up, and set you up with a lifetime contract for daily deliveries of scar-inducing pain.

Faithfulness describes God. Trust that. Where He leads, He also feeds. Everything you need to follow, He provides. If you receive good, it’s because God sent it. Settle in, settle down, and never settle for less than the adventure of the unshaken with God as your guide.

Prayer: God, why is it that when I’m faced with the choice of embracing pain or Your healing, I often choose the path of pain? Help me remember that You don’t ask me to work harder—You invite me to come to You for help. You don’t ask me to worry—You take care of everything.
