"Those who become holy see their need for deliverance and fall prostrate before God." ~ Francis Frangipane
DEMONOLOGY 102
Today I want to talk about two demons the Bible teaches us about today because they can, at times though not all, be linked together.
The "spirit of fear" found in 2 Timothy 1:7 binds so many people, largely due to increased technology The enemy can make you aware of more things through the media. The spirit of fear has many manifestations: torment/nightmares, fear of death, faithlessness, timidity/shyness, inferiority/inadequacy, rejection, fear of failure, worry, anxiety, tensions, stress, critical migraine headaches, paranoia, insanity, and phobias of all sorts.
Who hasn't been afraid? As kids, we ran up behind people and startled them. As adults, we all know that heart pounding fear that drenches you when you almost have a car accident or when the phone rings in the middle of the night. That is a natural and normal fear, placed in us by God for survival. It is what gives us the adrenaline rush when we are in danger to run, or stand and fight. That is natural, normal and healthy. But when fear begins to have its reaches in your mind, causing you to be scared all the time, expecting bad things to happen to you, it has left the normal zone and gone over to the demonic suggestion area.
How do you know if you are captive to fear? Ask yourself these questions:
Does fear of rejection keep me from living a normal life?
Does intimidation rule how I live?
Does worrying or fear of failure keep me from growing in faith and trust that God is taking care of me? Do I expect the worse (rejection) from people; relationships; family?
Do I fear a horrible death? Does that fear control my actions, such as where I will vacation or visit?
Fear like this is life controlling. It determines what you do and who you become, and not God. The absence of God's presence is a place where fear abides, but if you are a believer, there is absolutely nothing you have to fear.
The city I live in has many chemical plants. Some have called it "Cancer Alley". Some say that cancer or heart disease ravishes their families and everyone dies of it. I say break that generation curse, eat and live healthy because your body is God's temple and until He is ready to call you home, you will stay here.
Some people, to overcompensate for the fear of rejection, begin to live on the opposite end of the spectrum. They push past their timidity or rejection issues and instead of stopping in the normal range, they go to the other extreme, being crass, abrasive, and controlling. This lifestyle is far past what Jesus called us to be, in personality, and brings us to the lair of the "Spirit of Haughtiness" found in Proverbs 16:18-19.
This is the spirit many people incorrectly call the Jezebel Spirit. Actually, Jezebel was a woman, not a demon, but she was under the influence of this very demon; the spirit of haughtiness. To be Biblically correct, you can say "the spirit that Jezebel had" or "influenced her", but there is no demon named Jezebel in the Bible. The spirit of Haughtiness manifests like this: pride, scorn/mockery, judgmental, rudeness, bragging, stubbornness, egotism, prejudice, vanity/arrogance, dictorial, controlling, overbearing/domineering, superiority, and gossip.
Unlike the manifestations with the other spirits, no manifestation of this spirit can be called normal. Like fear can be healthy – it keeps you away from snakes – haughtiness is never normal. It is always in the sin category. Gossip is always sin. Judgment is always sin. Control is always sin. Pride is always sin. Prejudice is always sin.
I say it can be tied to the spirit of fear in some people because they try to overcompensate for their feelings of inferiority or rejection, but go to the extreme opposite. They get a high education and have people working for them and they consider themselves superior to those "beneath" them.
If you have a group of friends, do you consider some "better" because of their education or position?
Are you controlling, telling your spouse, friends, coworkers, or family what they will or won't do?
Would people say your temperament is gentle and Christ like or abrasive and rude?
It's one thing to be rude to someone, catch yourself, repent and go on. That's not being under the influence of a demon. But if you are like this on a daily basis, continuing to gossip, tear others down, judge them, criticize them, control their actions or a rude and stubborn, unteachable, then you have fallen prey to the same demons that controlled Jezebel. The difference is that you now know and have a great opportunity to change your future today.
Whether it's fear or haughtiness, or fear and haughtiness together, you have the opportunity to change your life today. Don't excuse these spirits manifestations as "personality quirks" anymore. One woman, I'll call her Anne, has had both demons for many years. Her marriage was doomed, it seemed. Her husband was tired of her dictating to him what he could or could not do. Her children couldn't wait to move out of the house and be free of her. And it seemed too late to put the pieces back together. But God set her free as soon as she assumed responsibility and stopped blaming her behavior on others or excusing it as "just the way I am". God freed her and she changed. Today, a year later, her husband has a new love for her and her children are amazed at the change in their mom. It's never too late. Anything that keeps you from manifesting the love, peace and personality of Christ needs to be crucified or cast out. This can be a time of freedom for the body of Christ.
Prophetically speaking, He is coming to free the church and cleanse His house now, then He is coming to the world.
Let Him free you today and live in the liberty Jesus died to give you!
