A Cry For Help
'Answer me when I call ... Give me relief from my distress...' Psalm 4:1
It's human nature to want rid of a problem immediately. Be it anything from debt, boredom, headaches, or even an annoying girlfriend or boyfriend, we just want it to go away - now! And when the problem is a real one, and seems too big to fix, that's when we cry out to God: Help God! Take it away! Are you listening? It's not right, not fair, I don't like it, I want it out my life, sort it out, God - now!
These might seem like angsty, immature responses, but in the Bible, David sets us an example. When life got tough he cried out to God: 'Answer me when I call ... Give me relief from my distress.'
When he was panicking, feeling depressed or messed up, he prayed. Many of his 'help me, God' prayers are recorded in the Psalms. In them we discover that no matter what, God always listens, and will never ever reject us.
Now when life is hunky-dory, sunshine and smiles we rarely need to hear this; but when life hits the fan and you feel as though your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, these words of assurance can be music to our ears.
Know God hears you and will answer. His answers might not be what you expect, but He is there for you.
